Robin Hood

This is going to be like other TVCU blogs regarding historical and literary characters, in that I'm only focusing on television and film appearances within the TVCU.  I hope you have read this before you go and tell me about a book that I left out.

12th Century--RABBIT HOOD--I know, you're thinking this should be in the AU section.  Nope.  Bugs' 12th century ancestor must have accidentally wound up in the TVCU through a rift.  This takes place during the events of the Errol Flynn film.

12th Century--THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD--This is the official TVCU Robin Hood, brought in oddly enough by an official crossover with Bugs Bunny.  (I could have tried to put this in the Looniverse, but the Looniverse version is a fox.  Also, the version in the TIME TUNNEL intentionally was made to look like the version from this film.)

12th Century--ROBIN HOOD:  MEN IN TIGHTS--Robin of Locksley returns from the Crusades to find an evil Prince John in charge.  Robin leads a band of thieves against the evil ruler.  Mr. Sweet, or one of his cohort musical demons must have been involved in the events of this tale.  Ollu and Buzsla are also present.  Buzsla actually poses as an Abbott.  These events are not of the real Robin Hood, but a poser.

12th Century--VOYAGERS--"An Arrow Pointing East"--Phineas Bogg and Jeffrey Jones help Robin enter the archery contest during the events of the main Robin Hood story.

12th Century--TIME BANDITS--Several time travelers from Heaven and a young boy land in Sherwood Forest and hope to join Robin Hood, until they realize that they are thieves who give their stuff away.

12th century--ROBIN HOOD--"The Inheritance"--King Arthur's spirit appears in Sherwood Forest.

12th century--NEW ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD--"Return to Camelot"--Robin travels back in time to Camelot.

12th century--NEW ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD--"Legend of Olwyn"--Arthur appears in flashback in a tale told to Robin by Merlin.

12th Century--BLACKADDER:  BACK AND FORTH--This must be the same character from Men in Tights and Time Bandits.  He tries really hard to defend the argument that his merry men are not gay, and eventually he is killed when his men are sick of giving away what they steal.

12TH Century--SESAME STREET--Another Robin Hood poser was an ancestor of Ernie from SESAME STREET.

12TH Century--MUPPET SHOW--Another poser is an ancestor of Kermit the Frog.

1215--TIME TUNNEL--"The Revenge of Robin Hood"--Doug and Tony accidentally wind up here.  The encounter Robin Hood, really the Earl of Huntington.

June 25, 2006--CHILDREN'S PARTY AT THE PALACE--Bad guys steal the Queen's handbag, and must be retrieved.  Crossovers include:  WINNIE THE POOH, HARRY POTTER, MARY POPPINS, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, THE BFG, THE WITCHES, THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE, PETER PAN, NODDY, BLUE PETER, ANGELINA BALLERINA, DENNIS AND GNASHER, POSTMAN PAT, THE GRUFFALO, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, ROBIN HOOD, TRACY BEAKER, HORRID HENRY, JUST WILLIAM, ROXIE HART, VELMA KELLY, CHICAGO, GREASE, ME AND MY GIRL, BEATRIX POTTER, MR. BLOBBY, BURGLAR BILL, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, 101 DALMATIONS, QUEEN OF THE PIRATES, OWL AND THE PUSSY CAT, SNOWMAN, and PADDINGTON BEAR. This tale takes place throughout time and alternate realities, but the main events begin in 2006 of the TVCU, I believe.  I'll say that in England apparently is one of those blurred areas where the TVCU and Looniverse connect, as seen in the Children in Need video which features British toons, but also Scooby, Shaggy, and Ben 10. Of those listed, the TVCU characters are the queen, Wendy (but is she shown in her proper time?), Robin Hood (same question), Harry Potter, maybe Mary Poppins (I think there is a link somewhere), Grease (I think is in). It's possible that this could be a link to both realities, and new characters brought in will have to come from whichever is the more logical reality for the character.

2008-1010—Warehouse 13--Season One; Episode Nine "Regrets"--Robin Hood's crossbow is shown to exist in the Warehouse. Since Robin was always show to fling arrows from a Longbow, this item's validity is suspect.

ALTERNATE REALITIES:

FAR FAR AWAY LAND:  Here, in SHREK, Robin is French and quite the ass.

LOONIVERSE:  DISNEY'S ROBIN HOOD takes place here, where Robin Hood is an anthropomorphic fox.  This Robin Hood also appeared in the video game adaption of DISNEY'S ALADDIN.  During the same time that the real Robin was active, there were a lot of posers doing deeds using the name, as seen in ROBIN HOOD MAKES GOOD, ROBIN HOODWINKED, THE HUCKLEBERRY HOUND SHOW, PEABODY'S IMPROBABLE HISTORY, NOT IN NOTTINGHAM, THE FAMOUS ADVENTURES OF MR. MAGOO, PINKCOME TAX, TINY TOON ADVENTURES, CAPTAIN N:  THE GAME MASTER, SOUTH PARK, SAMURAI JACK, and ROBIN HOOD DAFFY.  In THE DRAWN TOGETHER MOVIE:  THE MOVIE, Tinkerbell, the rhino guards from DISNEY'S ROBIN HOOD, a doorknob like the type in DISNEY'S WONDERLAND, and the Atlantis and Sebastian from LITTLE MERMAID are seen as Disneyland.

Cheers (and the spawn of Cheers)

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to log on?

Sometimes you want to go

Where all yours shows coexist,
and there's always something Rob has missed.
You wanna be where you can see,
Dracula meet Buffy
You wanna be where everybody knows
Superman met Lucy.

Or how about the real one?

November 1908--YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES--"Vienna, November 1908"--Young Indy meets Sigmund Freud.  Sigmund Freud has met Sherlock Holmes and also has appeared on BEWITCHED, I DREAM OF JEANNIE, STAR TREK:  THE NEXT GENERATION, FRASIER, and SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH.

Before 1982--TOOBWORLD--Check out this blog by Toby O'Brien bringing up some interesting facts and speculation about the early life of Sam Malone before Cheers.

Cheers intro logo.jpg

1982 to 1993--CHEERS--In one episode, Sam Malone directs his employees to send sick customers to St. Elegius Hospital.

Season 2 or 3Post-"Season 5"

February 1982--CHEERS--"Superbowl Pre-Game Show"--The lost episode, the transcript of which you can read here.

October 1983--CHEERS--"Little Sister, Don't Cha"--Carla Tortelli mentions having had her latest baby at St. Elegius Hospital.

March 1985--ST. ELSEWHERE--"Cheers"--The staff of St. Elegius Hospital go have a few drinks at CHEERS.

1987--THE TORTELLIS--Carla's ex-husband Nick Tortelli moves to Vegas with his new wife, his son, and his son's wife.  Fortunately for Frasier, this show didn't put NBC off from spinning off supporting characters in the future.

November 1988--MICKEY'S 60TH BIRTHDAY--Mickey goes missing after he once again misuses the sorcerer's hat.  Crossovers include:  FANTASIA (SORCERER'S APPRENTICE), WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?, FAMILY TIES, CHEERS, DONALD DUCK, THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, WIZARD OF OZ (FILM), PORKY PIG, HUNTER, ROAD RUNNER, GOLDEN GIRLS, and L.A. LAW.

November 1989--CHEERS--"Two Girls for Every Boyd"--Frasier tells Sam that his father was a research scientist who passed way.  Actually, as seen on FRASIER, he was a very much alive cop.

April 1990--THE EARTH DAY SPECIAL--This is crossover gold, and most people don't remember it.  Appearances by the muppets, MURPHY BROWN, BUGS BUNNY (from the Looniverse), PORKY PIG (from the Looniverse), TWEETY (from the Looniverse), Will Smith (THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIRE), DOOGIE HOWSER M.D., Kid 'n' Play (HOUSE PARTY), Dr. Emmett Brown (BACK TO THE FUTURE), MOTHER NATURE, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Weekend Update anchor Dennis Miller, Elon Spengler (brother of Egon Spengler of the GHOSTBUSTERS), Nathan Thurm (SCTV/SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE), the people of CHEERS, the Huxtables (COSBY SHOW), THE GOLDEN GIRLS, E.T. THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL, the cast of THE DATING GAME, the cast of JEOPARDY, Doctor SteVen Kiley (MARCUS WELBY, M.D.) and the Bundys (MARRIED WITH CHILDREN).  All these characters, plus other celebrities, appearing as themselves or one time characters are all part of the same story, thus sharing the same reality.  Basically, the Earth is doomed, unless we can save the environment.  This is a global crisis, and just like a DC Comics Crisis event, all these different characters are affected by the same crisis.  Loved it then, and I found it on youtube.  Enjoy.  Oh, and if you catch any crossovers I missed while watching, please let me know.

Wings title screen.jpg

1990 to 1997--WINGS--There once was a man from Nantucket.  And he had a brother, and they ran a little one plane passenger transport service.

October 1990--WINGS--"The Story of Joe"--Norm and Cliff come to Nantucket for some fishing, but instead end up sitting at the airport diner the whole trip.

February 1992--WINGS--"Planes, Trains and Visiting Cranes"--Frasier and Lilith Crane take a flight that stops off in Nantucket.

February 1993--WINGS--"I Love Brian"--The gang head to Boston for a concert, and try to get in the backstage party, where they run into CHEERS manager Rebecca Howe.

Frasier Logo.JPG

1993 to 2004--FRASIER--Dr. Frasier Crane returns home to Seattle after divorcing Lilith and moves in with his father.  He also gets a job as a radio psychiatrist.

December 1994--SIMPSONS--"Fear of Flying"--Homer goes looking for a new bar to hang out.  He ends up at CHEERS.  Now there is a curious thing about this.  Homer only drove for a few hours at most.  Springfield's place in the U.S. had always been a mystery.  It was in quick driving distance of Boston and Las Vegas.  And in THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, we see that that the state they reside in is bordered by four other U.S. states that are impossible geographically to all border the same state.  My theory is that Springfield moves.  It's really exists kind of outside of the space/time continuum, as does the other major towns of the Bongo Anomaly like South Park and Quohog, though those two are at least fixed.  They just all attract all sorts of weirdness...moreso than the rest of their reality.  So, I was talking about Cheers.  Yes, Homer winds up at Cheers in Boston.  This is the Cheers of the TVCU.

February 1995--FRASIER--"The Show Where Sam Shows Up"--Sam Malone visits Seattle and inquires about the fact that he was told that Frasier's dad was a deceased research scientist.  This was because at the time the two were estranged.  According to Sam, after the 1993 Cheers finale, "One for the Road", lives have changed since Frasier left Boston. Former bar manager of Cheers, Rebecca Howe, was dumped by her plumber husband Don Santry, who became rich after a successful plumbing invention, and then she settled her life back into the bar without intent to work there again. Bartender Woody Boyd and his wife, Kelly Gaines-Boyd, have a son, who is smarter than their parents. A bar regular patron and postman Cliff Clavin still lives with his mother, stops attending the bar, and has not left home after he read information about a flesh-eating bacteria.

The Show Where Sam Shows Up.jpg

September 1995--JOHN LARROQUETTE SHOW--"More Changes"--John Hemingway calls in to Dr. Frasier Crane's radio show for advice.

October 1995--CAROLINE IN THE CITY--"Caroline and the Bad Luck"--Caroline Duffy lives in New York and writes a comic strip called Caroline in the city.  Frasier and his family read the strip, as evidenced in one episode.  Caroline is sick and so her male friends do the strip for her.  Thus Daphne (Martin Crane's live-in physical therapist) doesn't get the joke but the male Cranes all think the strip is hilarious that day.

1996--STAR TREK:  30 YEARS AND BEYOND--Daphne and the Cranes watch and discuss Star Trek.  Though the events of Trek are real in the future, a time traveler leaked information to Gene Roddenberry in the 1960s.

February 1999--FRASIER--"The One Where Woody Shows Up"--Frasier's old bartender at Cheers in Boston, Woody, shows up in Seattle to visit his old friend. Things turn bad after their first night reunion when Frasier realizes that he has moved on with his life and left Woody in the past.

December 2000--FRASIER--"Mary Christmas"--Larry is the man dressed as Santa in this episode (played by Donovan Scott.)  [You can see the full episode here.]

April 2002--FRASIER--"Cheerful Goodbyes"--Frasier returns to Boston to give a speech, and Niles, Daphne and Martin come along to see the city. Frasier runs into Cliff Clavin (played by John Ratzenberger) at the airport and learns that Cliff is retiring and moving to Florida. Frasier and company attend Cliff's retirement party where Frasier reunites with the rest of the gang from Cheers (sans Sam, Woody and Rebecca), including bar regular Norm Peterson (played by George Wendt); waitress Carla Tortelli (played by Rhea Perlman); barflies Paul Krapence (played by Paul Willson) and Phil (played by Philip Perlman); and Cliff's old post office nemesis Walt Twitchell (played by Raye Birk).

February 2004--FRASIER--"Caught in the Act"--Frasier's married ex-wife, children's entertainer Nanny G, comes to town and invites him backstage for a rendezvous. Nanny G appeared on the Cheers episode "One Hugs, The Other Doesn't" (1992) and was portrayed by Emma Thompson. In this episode of Frasier she is portrayed by Laurie Metcalf. She also appeared in the second episode of Season 9 of Frasier, "Don Juan in Hell: Part 2" and was played by Dina Waters.

2004--DOCTOR PEPPER BLIPVERT--Dr. Frasier Crane does a commercial for Doctor Pepper.

February to October 2006--BOSTON LEGAL--Ivan Tiggs takes Shirley Schmidt to dinner at Melville's, the restaurant above CHEERS.

December 2007--BONES--"The Santa in the Slush"--After his bad experience in Seattle, Larry must have moved to Washington, D.C. where he still played Santa.  (Played again by Donovan Scott.)

Mid May 2008--HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER--"Everything Must Go"--Lily sells one of her paintings, only because the frame is made by Anton Kreitzer.  Kreitzer is a real person, though his name was once used by Norm Peterson.  Your uncle Toby uses this to connect HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER to CHEERS here.

Early December 2009--THE MIDDLE--"Christmas"--After the bad experience in D.C., Larry (Donovan) moves to Orson, Indiana, thinking it a better place to play Santa.

Mid December 2009--IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA--"Charlie vs. Santa Claus"--Santa Larry was almost driven insane by one child, and must have fled town immediately, thinking Philly would be better.  (After all, it's always sunny.)  Watch here to find out how wrong he was.

Yo, Joe!!! G.I. Joe in the TVCU

DECLASSIFIED

Listen up, soldiers!  Sergeant Skibob here.  Today's blog is going to cover one of my favorite cartoons, comics, and toys of my childhood.  And yes, all three of those are part of the TVCU. At ease, and enjoy.

480 B.C.--G.I. JOE # 49--"Serpentor"--Xerxes I gives a speech that later is recalled by Serpentor, who has Xerxes' DNA.  Xerxes has also appeared in XENA, WARRIOR PRINCESS and SOUTH PARK.

382 B.C. to 336 B.C.--G.I. JOE:  DEVIL'S DUE # 24--Life of Philip II, king of Macedonia.  His DNA will later be used to create Serpentor.

356 B.C. to 323 B.C.--G.I. JOE CARTOON/COMIC--Life of Alexander the Great, whose DNA will later be used to create Serpentor.  Alexander the Great was also seen in GOLIATH AND THE REBEL SLAVE.

247 B.C. to 183 B.C.--SERPENTOR'S FILECARD--Life of Hannibal, whose DNA is used to create Serpentor.  Hannibal also appeared in CABRIA.

JOE # 50 & 73/YEARBOOK # 3/SERPENTOR'S FILECARD--"The Battle of Springfield/Divided We Fall/My Dinner with Serpentor"--Life of Julius Caesar, whose DNA will be used to create Serpentor.  Julius Caesar has also appeared in THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO SHOW, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, BEWITCHED, HERCULES:  THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS, RELIC HUNTER, XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS, and CARMEN SANDIEGO'S GREAT CHASE THROUGH TIME.

440 to 453--SERPENTOR'S FILECARD--Life of Attila the Hun, whose DNA is later used to create Serpentor.  Attila also appears in THE MONKEES, THE MASK, and FUTURAMA.

1028 to 1087--G.I. JOE # 76--"All's Fair"--Life of William the Conqueror, whose DNA will be used to create Serpentor.  William also appeared in CARMEN SANDIEGO'S GREAT CHASE THROUGH TIME.

1167 to 1227--G.I. JOE # 49 & 73--"Serpentor/Divided We Fall"--Life of Genghis Khan, whose DNA will be used to create Serpentor.  Genghis Khan also appeared in HERCULES AGAINST THE BARBARIANS, STAR TREK, SATURDAY THE 14TH STRIKES BACK, BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, THE SIMPSONS, and MARSHALL LAW.

1428 to 1976--DARK PRINCE:  THE TRUE STORY OF DRACULA--There are many versions of Dracula in film, but this one has the same actor who would play him in the Buffy series, so this is actually a crossover.

December 1476--DOC SAVAGE:  HIS APOCALYPTIC LIFE/G.I. JOE:  DEVIL'S DUE # 24--Dracula is turned into a vampire.  Despite this, there are many times when Dracula lies dormant in his coffin, in such a deep slumber, he seems dead, and often if made catatonic by a stake in his heart.  This happened to be the case during the events in which Serpentor was created, as Cobra agents were able to obtain Dracula's DNA.  See my Dracula blog for more on Dracula's other TVCU appearances.

1530 to 1584--G.I. JOE:  DEVIL'S DUE # 24--Life of Ivan the Terrible, whose DNA was later used to create Serpentor.

1640s--DESTRO'S SECOND FILECARD--A member of the Destro clan sells weapons to both sides and as punishment is forced to wear a steel mask.

1752--G.I. JOE # 57--"Strange Bedfellows"--James McCullen Destro founds MARS (Military Armaments Research Syndicate).

1769 to 1821--G.I. JOE # 50 & 73/SERPENTOR'S FILECARD--"The Battle of Springfield/Divided We Fall"--Life of Napoleon Bonaparte, whose DNA will be used to create Serpentor.  Napoleon also appeared in THE AVENGERS, THE TIME TUNNEL, I DREAM OF JEANNIE, THE PRISONER, BEWITCHED, TIME BANDITS, BILL & TED''S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, and BLACKADDER BACK & FORTH.

1930s--JUDGEMENT DAY SOURCEBOOK--From Matt Hickman: Here's one that's probaly not A crossover but there's no reason it can't be it The Judgment Day Sourcebook The Fog,John Prophet, And The Phantom AviatorJust finishedlFighting A villain Called Dr. Lucifer then the Castle blows up seemingly killing The fog and John Prophet This story is set in the 30's anyhow to my point in the G.i. Joe episode Cobra's Creatures http://joeguide.com/summaries/cobras_creatures/ Cobra teams up to contral Anamils witrh the help of A Dr. Lucifer Who is an older Man Snice in the Jugement day story we never actally See him there's no reason they can't be the same guy

World War II--THE WALTONS--"The Starlet"--The real original G.I. Joe, predating Colton, appears in a documentary film.

World War II--THE BRIDGE--The first G.I. Joe leads American troops against the Nazis.

August 27, 1948--Birth of Robert O'Connell, who will later change his name to Robert Remus.  His father is Alexander O'Connell and his grandparents are Richard and Evelyn O'Connell.

November 1963--G.I. JOE # 152--"...Just Fade Away"--The formation of the first G.I. Joe team.  Joe Colton is given the code name of G.I. Joe.

1969--G.I. JOE # 127--"Playing with the Big Boys!"--Colton retires from the military, but continues a life of adventure.

1970--G.I. JOE ADVENTURE TEAM--Colton joins an Adventure Team.

1975--SUPERCOCK--In the Phillipines, a man known only as "G.I. Joe" appears and participates in the world of cock fighting.

1975--HASBRO TOYS--Atomic Man joins the Super Adventure Team.

1976--Bulletman joins the Super Adventure Team.

1977--G.I. JOE VS. THE TRANSFORMERS:  BLACK HORIZON--Cobra imprisons Joe Colton.

1978--G.I. JOE # 1 & 27--"Operation: Lady Doomsday/Snake-Eyes:  the Origin"--G.I. Joe is reformed.  Matt Hickman adds:  So G.I. Joe's official name is Special Counter-Terrorist Unit Delta so I suppose one could Make the argument at All appearances By Delta Force in fiction Are the G.I. Joe Team

December 1979--GODZILLA--"Island of Doom"--From Salvatore Cucinotta: "Cobra" appeared in the 70s Godzilla cartoon from Hanna Barbera. The episode is "The Island of Doom".

Late 1970s to Early 1990s--WWF WRESTLING--Robert Remus, code name Sgt. Slaughter, is a professional wrestler when not training Joes.  (ROCKY Balboa also trains Joes as part of his Reserves duties when not boxing.)  Note that during wrestling events, Slaughter proudly proclaims his status as a member of G.I. Joe.

1985--ATOMIC ROBO VOLUME 1 # 5--From Ted Gregory: Possibly relevant: According to the TvTropes article on Atomic Robo, "In vol. 1, issue #5, Robo has a one-panel flashback to his last encounter with Heisengard, in 1985 France. In that flashback, he and his three Action Scientists are dressed like members of the G.I. Joe team; Robo has Chuckles's outfit on, while he's apparently got Roadblock, Scarlett, and Bazooka with him."

October 1985--G.I. JOE--"Twenty Questions"--The first appearance of the character Hector Ramirez, a TV journalist lacking in integrity.  Ramirez also appears in THE TRANSFORMERS, JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, INHUMANOIDS, and TRANSFORMERS 2010, as well as the Devil's Due G.I. Joe comic, where he is killed by Cobra in # 40 for bringing sensitive information to Joe Colton.  It should be noted that Ramirez is meant to be Geraldo Rivera, and I agree, which of course means that Geraldo was killed in the TVCU in 2005!!!  I don't buy it though, and think he must have survived.  Geraldo has also appeared as the fictional TVCU Geraldo in SAIL TO THE CENTURY, ALL ABOUT STEVE, THE MIRACLE OF SPANISH HARLEM, THIRTYSOMETHING, HARD TO KILL, EMPTY NEST, NURSES, THE CRITIC, GRUMPIER OLD MEN, MEET WALLY SPARKS, CONTACT, COP LAND, MEN BEHAVING BADLY, NASH BRIDGES, PRIMARY COLORS, SEINFELD, HEARTLAND, THE SOPRANOS, and MY NAME IS EARL.

What secrets lie within Al Capone's vault? Certainly not a couch.Hector in G.I. Joe, Transformers, Inhumanoids and Jem. So far, no known My Little Pony appearances.

December 1985--G.I. JOE--"There's No Place Like Springfield"--Shipwreck is trapped in a town called Springfield that is on an island that is actually run by Cobra.  Cobra has obvious knowledge of the Village as the entire town is a near duplicate in appearance and methods.

1986--G.I. JOE AND THE TRANSFORMERS--Cobra forms an alliance with the Decepticons, but turns out, the Decepticons were being deceptive.  Really, Cobra Commander?  Didn't see that coming? It's even in their name.  So then Cobra turns to G.I. Joe and the Autobots to stop the Decepticons from destroying Earth.

June 1987--ACTION FORCE # 17--"Meditations in Red"--Action Force is a special branch of G.I. Joe.  In this issue, Quick Kick is remembering his mentor, SHANG CHI, MASTER OF KUNG FU.  Shang Chi is also the son of FU MANCHU.  Also mentioned are ELEKTRA, IRON FIST, and Batroc the Leaper.  Batroc, as a villain, does not bring in every story he's been featured in.  Iron Fist (and Power Man) are part of the TVCU.  Elektra's TVCU life must have gone a bit differently, since the TVCU DAREDEVIL made his debut in 1979 rather than the 1960s.  He is depicted in the TV Movie TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

August 1987--ACTION FORCE # 24 TO 27--Once more the Joes team up with the Autobots against the Decepticons.

Action Force 24

1994--G.I. JOE VOLUME 2 # 5--"Reinstated!"--G.I. Joe is decommissioned.

December 1994--BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER--"The Wish"--Anyaka, a wish demon, comes to Sunnydale, where she grants Cordelia Chase's wish that Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale.  The alternate reality seen is possibly the mirror universe.  These same events occur four years later in the TVCU2 and its Mirror Universe.  Just FYI, the mirror universe is where Buffy never came to sunnydale and where George bailey had never been born. I think there enough others (trek, hercules, charmed, g.I. Joe, super friends to name a few) that it might deserve it's own blog.

1995--G.I. JOE EXTREME--Lt. Stone becomes field leader of G.I. Joe.  Stone is the son of Sgt. Slaughter.

Lt Stone Extreme.jpgSgt stone.jpg

1996--RESIDENT EVIL 2--Night Hawk/Lone Wolf is a pilot working for the Umbrella Corporation.  Note that the initial Resident Evil saga starts in the TVCU in Raccoon City.  The later portions in which the virus has spread world wide actually take place in the divergent Zombieland timeline that would have resulted in the 21st century if it had not been diverted by the Winchesters.

Lonewolf.png

1998-ish?--DANGER GIRL--From James Bojaciuk: The original DangerGirl had post-Cobra Storm Shadow, Tomax and Xamot, and Dr. Mindbender as well as a post-Joes Snake Eyes.

2000--G.I. JOE VOLUME 2 #1--"Reinstated!"--The G.I. Joe team is reinstated.

2003 to 2007--G.I. JOE:  SIGMA 6--A new team of Joes is formed, using the same code names as the previous members.

GIS6 cast.jpg

May 2005--FAMILY GUY--"North by North Quahog"--Flint happens to be at the dance at James Woods High School in Quahog when he overhears kids drinking in the restroom and intervenes.

2006--G.I. JOE VS. THE TRANSFORMERS:  THE ART OF WAR--A new foe seems to have all the combined memories of Serpentor and Megatron.

Son of Megatron, the sequel

2007--G.I. JOE VS. THE TRANSFORMERS:  BLACK HORIZON--Colton is rescued from his prison in Cobra-La, which must really be Shangra-La from LOST HORIZON.

Late September 2008--HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER--"The Best Burger in New York"--Your uncle Toby points out that Regis Philbin appears in this episode as himself.  Using his rule called "the League of Themselves", which he discusses here, this connects HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER to other shows such as "All My Children", "One Life to Live", "Primetime Glick", "The Famous Jett Jackson", "LateLine", "Caroline in the City", "Style and Substance", "Second Noah", "Soul Man", Marry Me (1997 TV movie), "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", "Hope & Gloria", "Women of the House", "The Cosby Mysteries", "The Larry Sanders Show", "Seinfeld", "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues", "Mad About You", "Number 96", "Spin City", "Lilo & Stitch: The Series", "The Simpsons", and "Family Guy".  This episode is also the first appearance of Goliath National Bank.  Your uncle James has provided me with this info:  So, make of this How I Met Your Mother theory what you will, but TVTropes argues that the company Barney works for--Altrucell--is actually a front for COBRA.

From TVTropes:
Think about it: what do we know about the company Barney works for?
• They spend a lot of time acquiring banks, and theoretically, have a lot of bankers/financiers working with them
• They're evil
• They regularly get attacked by ninjas
• They have destabilized at least one nation
• They regularly do business with countries the U.S. considers threats (North Korea and China, at least.)
Sounds a lot like COBRA to me.

That same day that your uncle James told me this, I got an e-mail from COBRA INSURANCE.  Cobra has many fronts, including Extensive Enterprises. There's also these: Fronts
To hide certain aspects of its operation, Cobra maintains a number of legitimate business fronts (in addition to the town of Springfield itself and its encompassing businesses) nearly all of which appear to be anagrams of the word "cobra".
Naja Trading Corp and its likely subsidiary, "Naja Hanna Video Corp", is the first of these fronts to appear in the comics. It has offices in both San Francisco as well as Rio Lindo in the Republic of Sierra Gordo. Cobra used it to smuggle MX missile guidance chips out of the country inside video games. Dr. Venom was in charge of the Rio Lindo office. "Naja Hanna" is Hindi for "King Cobra".[5]
Arbco (AKA ARBco Regional) is the largest and most prominent Cobra front in the Marvel RAH comics. Although it apparently started in Springfield, it grew to have offices in at least 10 major U.S. cities including Denver.
Arbco Furniture Company: Cobra maintained a secret testing lab within for a deadly plague toxin in Springfield, Vermont.[6]
Arbco Moving & Storage (AKA Arbco Moving): Cobra uses moving trucks with "Arbco" stamped on the sides to transport H.I.S.S. tanks covertly into Washington D.C. for an attack on the U.S. Treasury.[7] They were also used to transport sensitive spy equipment for reassigned undercover Crimson Guardsmen.[8] Cobra Commander maintains a mobile office in an Arbco Moving truck.[9]
Arbco Bros. Circus: Billy learned that Cobra uses the circus as a cover to transport HISS tanks and FANG copters (mistakenly referred to as "SNAP copters") around the country.[8]
Carbo Plumbing: A surveillance team of Tele-Vipers eavesdrop on a military inquest from a plumbing van outside the Pentagon.[10]
Robca Realty
Broca Bros. Carnival
Orbac - Cobra troops were moved into the Safeco Field Stadium in Seattle using trucks with this name on the side.[11] Zartan used an Orbac truck as a mobile HQ as well.[12]
Extensive Enterprises - This global company based out of the twin Enterprise Towers in Enterprise City existed primarily to serve Cobra's administrative needs with Tomax and Xamot as the corporation's CEOs. Its first appearance was in the third G.I. Joe miniseries and then in the regular TV series in the episide "Red Rocket's Glare". Although the company existed primarily in the TV universe, it would later be adapted by Devil's Due for use in the comics continuity as well. In the IDW comic continuity, it is a pre-existing, corrupt multinational firm that is absorbed into Cobra.
M.A.R.S.- Military Armaments Research Systems/Syndicate - a legitimate weapons manufacturing firm headquartered in Callender, Scotland. James McCullen Destro XXIV is the current owner and CEO.

2010--TRANSFORMERS 2010--"The Killing Jar"--It's revealed that Marissa Faireborn is the daughter of G.I. Joe's Flint.  Flint's father was the military leader that first worked with the Autobots when they first came to Earth in the first Transformers series.  Lady Jaye is Marissa's mother.

DON'T DATE ROBOTS.

2010--TRANSFORMERS 2010--"Only Human"--Tired of the Autobots interfering in his operations, a crimelord seeks the aid of Cobra Commander.  Yes, there are Transformers in the TVCU.

Doing a crossover... in style!

November 2011--FAMILY GUY--"Amish Guy"--Flint shows up when Stewie is trying to explain to an Amish kid the concept of G.I. Joe.

Late 2012--DANGER GIRL/G.I. JOE--No info available yet.  The IDW G.I. Joe is part of the TVCU2 canon, because IDW believes in buying the rights to our favorite stories just so they can say they don't exist any longer.

2020--C.O.P.S.--A new special crime fighting unit is formed called Central Organization of Police Specialists.  One member, Checkpoint, is the son of G.I. Joe's Beachhead.

ALTERNATE REALITIES:

EARTH-616-2--Yeah, or something.  In this reality, G.I. Joe is a team in the late 1930s, which is when the war between Autobots and Decepticons begins.  And Cobra is an independent terrorist group during this era.  This is all seen in TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE from Dreamwave Productions.  The sequel, sen in the same reality, is TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE:  DIVIDED FRONT, which is set in the mid 1980s.

Guys, Optimus is behind you. Now start digging him out, I think he's trapped.

EARTH-PRIME--Steve Colton is a toy come to life in INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD.

LOONIVERSE--G.I. Joe also exists in this reality as seen in DOLL DAY AFTERNOON.  In SIMPSONS episode "Lisa Vs. Malibu Stacy", the real Malibu Stacy, whom the doll is based off of, has previously dated both Joe Colton (G.I. Joe) and Steve Austin (THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN).  In THE TRUTH ABOUT G.I. JOE, Joe Colton, while waiting for his date at the bar, runs into Ken and Barbie.

ROBOT CHICKEN UNIVERSE--Since it's an 80s toy, Robot Chicken has many appearances of G.I. Joe characters.

SKITLANDIA--G.I. Joe appears in the MAD episode "Pooh Girl/Not-a-Fan-a-Montana". G.I. Joe later fights Cobra ninjas in a 99 cent store run by James Bond in 99 CENT BOND.

TVCU2--This is the divergent timeline of remakes.  This is where the current IDW series is set, because they love to buy our favorite stories just to say they no longer exist.  There have been a few crossovers.  In Infestation, zombies from the universe of ZOMBIES VS. ROBOTS are somehow sent through time and space to the 23rd century of the TVCU (STAR TREK) and the present day TVCU2 (G.I. JOE, TRANSFORMERS, and GHOSTBUSTERS.)  The Universe of CVO is also involved.  Then, in Infestation 2, LOVECRAFTian horrors attack in the present day TVCU2 (G.I. JOE, TRANSFORMERS) and present day TVCU (TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, DANGER GIRL).

WHONIVERSE--This is the reality of G.I. JOE:  THE RISE OF COBRA and G.I. JOE: RETALIATION.  And the Doctor shows up in a prequel comic just to help me find the right place to put this.

Dismissed!

Picket Fences and Chicago Hope

Picket fences.jpgChicago Hope.jpg

You might be wondering what a show about a quirky small town and a hospital drama have in common, and why they would be in the same blog, but the two shows are indeed interconnected, and it just makes good sense to cover them both together.

1972--PICKET FENCES--Sheriff Jimmy Brock and Dr. Jill Langston are wed by the Reverend Henry Novotny.  He has previously officiated the wedding of Mike and Carol Brady and before that been an Army Chaplain at  Camp Crowder, Missouri and married Rob Petrie and Laura Meehan.

1994 to 2000--CHICAGO HOPE--Dr. Kathryn Austin is shown to have won the Cushing Left Anterior Descending Artery Award.  Dr. Mark Craig of St. Elegius is a previous recipient.  Also, Dr. Austin mentions that her mentor is Dr. David Domedion, who had previously appeared on ST. ELSEWHERE.

1994 to 2000--CHICAGO HOPE--On this series, a reporter talks to Doctor Austin about being accepted into the space program, and mentions that another doctor at County also was accepted, referring to Doctor Greene on ER who was also accepted into the space program on that show.  Noah Wyle as Carter on 'ER' appeared in a locker room shot on 'Chicago Hope'.

November 1994--PICKET FENCES--"Rebels with Causes"--Doctor Jill Brock accompanies the ailing lawyer Douglas Wambaugh to CHICAGO HOPE where he is treated by Dr. Jeffrey Geiger.  Jill is not impressed with hospital and wishes they had gone to the other one across town (referring to County General Hospital from ER.)

December 1994--X-FILES--"Red Museum"--In Delta Glen, Wisconsin, the agents investigate weird going ons involving cows, teenagers, and injected DNA.

December 1994--PICKET FENCES--"Away in the Manger"--When weird happenings involving cows begin to happen in Rome, Wisconsin, some residents wonder if it has anything to do with the events that happened a few weeks earlier in Delta Glen that caused the FBI to come in and intervene.

January 1995--CHICAGO HOPE--"Small Sacrifices"--Rome, Wisconsin's attorney Douglas Wambaugh returns for a follow-up visit.

December 1995--HOMICIDE:  LIFE ON THE STREET--"A Doll's Eyes"--When a Baltimore HOMICIDE officer is injured, he is rushed by helicopter to Chicago where he is cared for by Dr. Jeffrey Geiger of CHICAGO HOPE.

April 1998--EARLY EDITION--"Mum's the Word"--Gary Dobson brings his sick friend to CHICAGO HOPE.

March 2000--CHICAGO HOPE--"Cold Hearts"--An Angel of Death is seen.  Of course, this angel likely is the official angel assigned to the Chicago area at this time, and likely is always hanging out at Chicago Hope, County General, ect, but this one story allowed us to actually see her.

September 30 to October 1, 2006--HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER--"Brunch"--The first time we meet Ted's parents.  Your uncle Toby believes that Virginia Mosby may be the identical cousin of Angela Petrelli of HEROES, which he discuses here.  Your uncle Toby concludes by saying "But then you should drag in all the other characters she has played in the past as well, from 'Picket Fences', 'Providence', ,Charmed' and 'Grace Under Fire' to one-shots like 'Saved', 'Crossing Jordan', 'CSI' and 'NCIS'. And on and on......"
